We had a "teach-in" on the history of the Left today and nobody came. Well, not quite nobody - the four students in the audience balanced the four seasoned leftist faculty members at the front - and we did have a pretty illuminating discussion. (I was just a facilitator, which sort of sums up my brand of leftism.) Several candidates for what defines the left - working class struggle, socialism, Marx, nationalization, participatory democracy, liberation, radicalism - were bruited by the panelists, but the students weren't buying.
