Farce?
Saw a brilliant new Irish play at St. Ann's Warehouse in DUMBO, Enda Walsh's "The Walworth Farce." Couldn't possibly do its intricate and ingrown plot justice - not to mention that I wouldn't want to spoil the story. But suffice it to say that the acting was remarkable, and the story hilarious and... devastating. It's about theater (of course) and Ireland (of course), but beyond the hilarity and the bleakness is a deep compassion for a perhaps mortally wounded humanity. I didn't plan it this way, but it fits nicely into a program of cultural events with my visiting friend H which took in Elia Kazan's "Streetcar named Desire" at MoMA yesterday and turns to Samuel Beckett's "Endgame" at BAM tomorrow.
