Wizdom

The main thing which happened today is that - with the expert assistance of H - ground was broken on the garden: for two hours we chopped and raked and dug and soaked and even planted a little. As a reward for our labors, we watched "The Wiz" (1978), which had just arrived on Netflix, and which neither of us had seen before. What a trip! The disco aesthetics and dance - a youngish Michael Jackson was the scarecrow! - were wonderful, but the adaptation of the Wizard of Oz story was also very smart and even moving. (America's great, said H.) And then to have the good witch Glinda float from a starry firmament and, as she starts singing, turn out to be Lena Horne...! And get this: this Dorothy's Auntie Em lives on 433 Prospect Place - not two blocks from here!
