Update, 6pm EST

The news is very bad - 1250 houses now destroyed, 241,000 acres burned, nearly half a million people evacuated and no end in sight. The evacuation order for the part of Del Mar where my parents live was lifted a few hours ago: the fire's been spreading north and south, the westward push slowed by weaker winds. But the danger's certainly not over, the firefront is bigger than ever.
