That dove is still outside my window, at least two weeks on. She's persisted through some pretty nasty weather - whatever its other merits as a nesting site, a fire escape offers no shelter from above. I've been amazed each day to find her still there. What devotion.
But does it really take that long to hatch eggs?
Perhaps not, I learned today. I raised the screen to take a picture of her covered in pearling raindrops and she fluttered briefly away, revealing... not an egg.
