After a somewhat underwhelming day overwhelmed by tourists in fabled Hangzhou yesterday, we had a great day in Shanghai being tourists. The view along the 外滩 Bund promenade and across to Pudong really is impressive, and then, just a few minutes' walk later, to find yourself in the otherworldly pleasure garden of 豫园 Yuyuan was lovely. Why haven't I been before? Perhaps there's a certain self-effacement to Shanghaiers, who've told me Yuyuan is the best in Shanghai but still nothing much, I should go to Suzhou. I'm certainly going to Suzhou, too!
