Had a rather rude awakening today. In "Theorizing Religion" this year, there's nobody who would admit to knowing about Buddhism! (It emerged at least two students had encountered it in classes but was not volunteered.) How can this be? Isn't Buddhism the go-to place of the SBNR, the kinder gentler world of mindfulness, compassion and practice, the warm glow of eastmeetswest? I guess not!So I'm afraid that Donald Lopez' debunking of this so amenable Buddhism will have made less than no impression.
