It's not in my budget, but I do hope that whoever buys Gustav Klimt's 1903 "Birchenwald," currently up for
auction, lets other people see it! Klimt's square nature paintings have been favorites of mine since I saw them at the Belvedere as a tween, like this one, "
Blühender Mohn."
And it was a poster of "Der Park," with its apparently solid block of green really a firmament of improbable purples and yellows (it resides at
MoMA), that I long had on my wall... poor deciduous forest-starved Southern Californian! Was Klimt one of my teachers in
seeing trees?
