It feels like a really long time since I've posted here - as expected, I wasn't able to get into blogger from my hotel - so let me try to make up for lost time. Here are some representative scenes of my first two days.
Coming into Beiing South Station, just under 5 hours by high-speed train
A friend welcomed me with traditional Beijing foods, like these
The walk to my hotel took me past bustling Sanlitun Village
The old-fashioned street where my hotel (hostel) is
St. Joseph's or East Church after the 8am mass
Gifted water calligrapher
The view along Beijing's great access north from Jingshan Park
and south: Forbidden City!
Confucius Temple
Offerings of money at the Confucius Temple
Cast off plaster models of Confucius and his disciples
