An exam is a way of showing students what they (should) have learned, and what they can do with it - content as well as ways of navigating and building on it. For the midterm paper in "After Religion," due the 7th of our 15 weeks (a mere fortnight from now!),
I provided more fully articulated prompts than I usually do in my seminars, where the open-endedness is part of the process. Students have to choose just one of these nine topics, but I hope they'll realize they've actually learned enough to address all of them.
