Palomar Mountain State Park boasts some remarkable trees, some of the most striking of which are canyon live oaks. This is a relative newbie - I include the picture to give a sense of size.
Dense thickets of stems, the oldest are too big for a singe photo. One huge one apparently fell a few years after a fire tore through this area in 2007. It feels like the skeleton of a giant whale!
