Wowza

Went to see the Royal Ballet of Flanders at the Lincoln Center Festival tonight, performing postmodern choreographer William Forsythe's 1988 masterpiece "Impressing the Czar." It was insanely entertaining. (These pics are taken from all sorts of online reviews, and give (a) little idea of its frenetic energy and prodigious virtuosity. The third shows different scenes from the same amazing pas de deux.) Is it profound? I was too delighted to wonder. Even when the whole company came out dressed as English schoolgirls (a schoolgirl was on the throne of the Czar in Act 1, too) and did wild stomping circle dances... What's it all about? Who cares!
